A Fantastical Escape?

Seen Reading:

A twenty-something blonde with square black-rimmed glasses, dressed in a navy blue Plainfield Parks and Recreation polo and tan pants hunched forward with her head turned downward.  She was so deeply engrossed in a thick tome that she didn't notice us approach to return ping-pong paddles.  What was she reading?  (Or re-reading, I suspect)

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling.

Ahh, summer reading!  What's in your stack to read?

Hoosier Poets Sought for Publication Benefiting State Parks

Spring is finally here after a long winter and the beautiful Indiana scenery is blooming back to life. The breathtaking state parks of Indiana are no exception. Filled with gorgeous landscapes and awe-inspiring views, the 25 state parks have been the subject of admiration for decades.

In an effort to capture the majesty of Indiana's natural assets, Naturally Yours, a poetry publication, will be accepting up to three original poetry and short story submissions about Indiana state parks for the opportunity to be published. Any short stories or poems should be a maximum of 32 lines or 3,000 words each, and must be submitted by July 31, 2013.

Naturally Yours will be published in the fall of 2013 and all proceeds will directly benefit the Indiana state parks. Visit www.parkpoems.com for complete project guidelines and submission requirements.

Best of luck.  Let me know if you get accepted.  I love to celebrate writing success!

Words on the Go

On Friday, I dropped by the City Bus in Lafayette, Indiana.

I picked up my poem placard.

My poem will be riding buses by the end of the month.  Yay!

Belly Floppers

I’ve been dreaming of vintage roller coasters: the clacking countdown as the car queues up to the top, the sudden drop and roll, even the screams and the not-so-faint scent of popcorn tinged with hints of regurgitation in humid air.  Even my hands have that rusty smell when I wake up, as if I’ve been gripping the safety bar too hard.

Why am I dreaming so vividly of roller coasters?  Is it because I can no longer ride them or because I’ve had a roller coaster week?  You decide:

·         three rejections for three very different projects in three different genres

·         a routine-disrupting week at work (yes, even librarians can have off days)

·         my husband was out of town on business, so Casa Post was running with one parent

·         tenuous scheduling for a future class and for upcoming holidays

·         then, a beautiful acceptance from Sleet Magazine for an “irregular” work

·         not enough sleep (thunder keeps me awake indefinitely)

·         not enough time to read the wonderful holds that came in for me at the library

I am VERY excited about Sleet’s acceptance!  An irregular is, according to their website, “a genre-crossing bit of writing—something that overflows borders or maybe never had any.  It could be an impression, a vignette, a 1-line flash.”  My “irregular” should be out in September or early October of this year.  The piece they accepted reveals my humorous side, which I think everyone will enjoy.  I can’t wait!

I am also VERY excited to add too, that moonShine review will be publishing a short-short story of mine in their next issue as well.  (I was waiting to hear about the publishing date before sharing.  But I can’t wait any longer.  Publishing date is still pending on that one.)  So another cause to celebrate!

The week started with doors closing, but then, new doors opened.  Thank you moonShine review and Sleet.  Whoosh and roll!

Am I ready to get back on the coaster again?  Well, I once rode a roller coaster twenty-one times in a row.  For real.  It was a glorious day worth the sunburn and the lost sunglasses.  So…yeah.  I think I’ll step in the queue again and see where it takes me.
How has your week gone?

Reaching Readers in Unexpected Places

Good news!  Coming soon to a city bus in the Lafayette area...a poem by Stacy Post!  Yes folks, the Greater Lafayette Public Transportation Corporation has a program called, Words on the GoThey place poetry on the advertising rails inside the buses.  I submitted a few months ago and got word that starting sometime this month, one of my poems will be riding around the Lafayette, Indiana area. (Home of Purdue University, my alma mater.)  How cool is that?

The poem will ride for approximately six months.  When it comes out, I plan to track down the bus and take a photo to share with you.  Happy May!

Remember When?

Do you remember when I visited the Kurt Vonnegut Library shortly after it opened?  Did you know they now have a literary journal called, So It Goes?  Well, they are open for submissions now for their second edition and this year they are looking for humor!

"We want your whimsy, levity, dark satire, political parody, topical tomfoolery, sarcastic spoofs, and wit. Keep in mind that we are looking for your unique voice and not just an imitation of Vonnegut’s trademark, humorous humanism."  --from the KVL website

Submissions are limited to one piece of prose up to 1500 words, up to five poems or original photographs and/or artwork.  Deadline is July 15, 2013.  The journal will publish in November of this year.  Here's the link for further guidelines.

Best of luck.  I hope someone I know gets accepted.  That would be fun!

Last Poetry Reading of April

Folks, if you are in the area, why not join me on Tuesday, April 23rd, from 7 to 8 pm at the Delphi Public Library?  I'll be reading from my poetry chapbook, Sudden Departures, as well as sharing a few of my favorite poems from other poets.

Did I mention there will be pie?  Lots of yummy homemade pie.  And poetry.  The two work quite nicely together.  Don't believe me?  I've even written a special poem just for the occasion.

Stop by if you get a chance. I'd love to see some familiar faces!
